So why are the children told at public schools not to mention the word God? This amendment guarantees the freedom to apeak ,pray or believe at any place ! where do those people who want to bend the knees of the U.S. A. get to say that they alone have a right to impose on everyone else? Who are they or the goverment for that matter to tell me what my child should be thaught , in respect to homosexuality or other boloneys that DO NOT BELONG IN THE CLASSROOMS!

Excellent question and a topic that has many misconceptions surrounding it.

You list the two important lines in the Constitution about religion:

1-Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion

2-or prohibiting the free exercise there of.

The first part is the one that seems to ALWAYS be referred to by anti-religion pundits. They usually use the term "separation of church and state," which is not found anywhere in the Constitution. I'll bet most Americans don't even realize that!

So, you are right; most of the time it seems that we are being told that Christian symbols and such cannot be included anywhere that is government owned because of this so called 'establishment' clause and no one bothers to mention the second part of the SAME line that prohibits free exercise of religion!

The saddest thing is that our country's founders put that clause in the First Amendment simply because of their hatred of the King of England and the controlling government he ran based on his interpretations of Christianity; agree with them or be punished!!!!

So the 'establishment' clause had nothing to do with "separation of church and state," and everything to do with the government not making any laws that tell us what religion we have to join or agree with AND letting us practice it. (and so far I don't recall ANY laws out there establishing religion!!! so the clause has done its job!)

It has only been about 50 years since public schools started taking God out of the classroom, and discipline and the character of our children has continued to worsen year after year. Society has changed so much, it is scary to think about the direction we are going and what the next generation will be dealing with in terms of religious freedoms.

I agree that if religion is expected to be taught by parents and not schools, then "lifestyles" such as homosexuality should also be reserved for outside of the school. It is ridiculous that it is tolerated with anyone who says anything against it being chastised while criticism of Christians runs rampant and no one does anything about it.

This amendment says the government (federal, state, or local) cannot support or detract from any religion. Public schools can mention the word God--they just cannot force children to pray to Him. (Or Her, or whatever.) If you want a religious environment in schooling, leave the public system and go to the parochial school of your choice.

The only thing 'those people' are imposing on everyone is avoidance of a government-sanctioned faith. The same goes for homosexuality--the ban on gay sex and marriage is based in Christianity, therefore the government cannot show favoritism towards this particular element of faith.

And before you get upset and start saying Christianity should be backed by our governments, which Christianity? Would you be comfortable with having to say Hail Mary in school? Because many Protestants would be upset with the Marianist qualities of that prayer.

People sue the government to keep it religious-neutral. Speaking as a practicing Catholic, I love that. I can keep the faith in my famility, parish, and community without the government getting involved, thank you very much.

Because the Government doesn't like it that God is being taught in schools they want things like science to be taught in school. I me personal think if God where taught there be less crime. they have to debate over if God can be taught. why do we need to debate over it. It seems to me it that where we came from, then why not teach our children about God and love. I think they get bend out of shape heck they took the 10 commandants out of public schools why and prayer so whats the big deal let our children pray. We now debate over gay marriages, marriages was between a men and women period. why should we debate that we should not be taking God out of school and government when are they going to wake up with crime rate up abortion we kill more babies in this country than any other. I could keep going the truth is we can't live without God period and if think we can we are fooling ourselves.

I agree on some of your issues. The prayer issue. You can thank the ACLU for taking that right away.My wife & I were banned from speaking to my daughters class on family life but a gay(2wemen) couple were allowed to tell about there family life. The school said it was alturnative life style day so we could not come. The goverment banned prayer in school but opens the Congress, Senate& even the Supreme Court with prayer. Kind of a double standard. Prayer in goverment buildings (public ) but no prayer in school building (public),..Got me.

you have a very good question, and most don;t understand it but if you think about it only one good answer stands out , by taking god out of the picture and all christian beliefs, this country has nothing to believe in and with nothing to believe in no morality, no pride where can we go but down, so you can rest assured our boys in black are paid to destroy our country, but WHY should be the question, the Muslims can pray thirty times a day in class or?? the Jews have their Hanukkah, and any other religion can practice uninterrupted, but let a christian pray then all hell breaks loose the A,C,L,U, and every other communist group will be down on the one who just prayed to a christian god, and the Christians who built this country act lie sheep being led to the slaughter,
