I am not a Montoya fan. But I think it is interesting to comment on his transition, and his first qualifying result on an oval track with stock cars. Food for thought.

i browsed through an article in the USA today about him today. it said he looks like a natural behind the wheel in his ARCA testing so far. the article noted that he got off to an extremely fast start in both champ car series and F1, winning races in his first year in both. i assume the plan is still for him to drive the full cup schedule in '07 in the 42 car, right? i can't wait to see how he does, it'll be one of the most intriging storylines in NASCAR next year

ARCA is a good place to start for any racing driver that don't got any expertise in a stock car and what to race in Nextel Cup. Both cars a very similar just that ARCA has different rules the Cup does. Also from what I heard, Montoya is also going to enter the ARCA race at Iowa next week and then (this next part is not official yet) will drive in the Busch race at Memphis, Texas and Phoenix. And if he does well in those races, he could be in the Cup race at Homestead. After all that, he should be cleared by NASCAR to race in the Daytona 500 next year.

I've been a race fan for many years now. JP is a great driver BUT, holding your foot to the floor and steering around Talladega is not that hard if the car is set up properly

I dont think he can have success in NASCAR... his style is more suited for winding tracks. So, he still belongs in a more F1 type of circuit, but being not so good these days, maybe something in Formula 3000 or A1 Grand Prix.

The issue may be he may not be eligible next season to race at Daytona unless ARCA races count towards clearing him to race on SuperSpeedways. Because NASCAR usually makes a driver race on a two-mile track and prove themselves to be clean before they race at a plate race.
