Why do certain races think that they are superior to the rest when we are all the same inside?

From studying introduction to sociology, I found that there is actually no such thing as race. It was just man-made. Therefore, there is no such thing as a superior race...I am wondering how it came about??? any thoughts on this??

We all have a need to feel superior, whether it's because of our wealth, beauty, intelligence, strength, job position, fame, talent, status, personality, possessions, culture, religion, history - or race.

The modern U.S. was built off the backs of African slaves and others. So, at some point in history, Europeans were indeed superior to Africans in their wealth, possessions and status. Because slavery became such an endemic part of society, on which the economy greatly depended, it was easy for Europeans to feel they were superior to Africans in every other way as well. That created a horrendous cycle in which the descendants of these slaves began to accept Europeans' erroneous beliefs as true.

It won't always be this way. Other groups have rebounded from severe oppression, for examples, the Jews and the Japanese. And slowly we (African Americans) are rebounding also. It takes time.

The pendulum always swings in the other direction...eventually.

well first we are only the same inside when it comes to feelings and or emotions and the basic motor skills we use to function each race and their sub categories have completely different skeletal and genetic make up not to mention anatomy.however i am a skinhead from way back and i believe no person is superior to another just as i strongly believe we are not equal to one another either.each race and or ethnicity has its good and bad its all about respect for your fellow human until they individually give you a reason to do otherwise calming to be better is like a bully calling the weak kid at school names it makes them feel better about themselves and helps them disguse their own low selfesteem any way thats just an old skinheads opinions and sadly people dont realise thats how a majority of mature skins think oh well life aint easy

because some people in this world are stupid racist pigs who think there is such a thing as superiority. I think those kind of people are afraid that someday the "race" they say are inferior would equel them so they start branding themself the superioir race just to put them down. Its all power trip.

Well obviously whites are the ones that think they are superior when in fact they are the least respected race. Whites are theives and barbarians that have STOLEN everything they have. They claim everything. They claimed to have discovered America when it was already discovered. They will be the downfall of this country. They are shooting up our schools, killing our little children, spreading their damn sars and bird flu, stealing peoples retirements funds (think ENRON), they are behind the wars that are killing our troops, behind inflation and debt. They are the reason that every country in the world hates our country. And yet they have the nerve to think they are superior. That just shows how truly dumb they are.

because everyone has a need to feel important, and so they use the "racial" thing to try to make their own little group feel more superior than the others. this is why you have all these heritage celebrations. its not only that, but its also political...if you can hold together a group of people and distance them from others, then you can use them as a political tool for whatever you want.

ofcourse there are races. ultimately we are all aprt of the human race but through the study of the divisions of the human race you will notcie significant differences mentally and physically between races that are uniform throughout their 'race'. just look at the vast differences in genetics between types of people on earth.

Technically no when you consider that Mario and Luigi beat up bowser who's the koopas chief .besides human beings are primitive and nonetheless can't see previous race and faith some better primitive than others.

I think it starts with the fact that humans bond with those closest to us. We protect our own group against outsiders. This is natural. The surprising thing, to me, is that so many people have developed enough logic and ethics to see the wrong in this. There is something super-natural, I think, in the human ability to see beyond their immediate selfish inclinations.

i dont know it seems like the Europeans are the ones that responsible for that because they went out and explored and claimed to discover places that were already inhibited by people, i dont know if it was them that looked down on the people that were in tribes and seemed uneducated and filthy to them? maybe thats how it started?

Alot of ignorance. People don't really know too much about other cultures so they automatically think theirs is the best.
