I have a six month old son who has been having green runny bowel movements for the last 3 days. He saw the doctor yesterday and she seemed to think he was ok. She said it may be a touch of a stomach virus, but I thought that he would act sick if he had a virus. He acts like he's fine and he doesn't act sick at all. He doesn't give me any impression that he is not feeling well and his temp is normal. He's eating fine and he has plenty of wet diapers, but he has 2-3 very runny bowel movements a day. I've heard teething can do that, but that jsut doesn't click in my mind as to why it would do that. Does anyone know why he is doing this and what I can do to help it stop?

Have you given him anything new food wise? That could be a possibility. Given the fact that he has no fever, normal behavior and it is not as frequent I wouldn't worry as much. Just be sure to get plenty of fluids, especially Pedialyte. Watch for a rash, diaper cream is essential, although sometimes depending on the rash some dry corn starch can help as well. I hope he is better soon, good luck.

At 6 months old it could definitely be teething. If it was a virus, the doctor wouldn't give you any medicine for him anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about it only being 2-3 times per day. If it continues for more than 10 days then I would take him back to the doctor. Sometimes they just get runny bowel movements. It could be a virus, teething, or something they ate.

My son went throught the same thing at around the same time. He had this poop for 3 weeks. I think it WAS a stomach virus and because of that he became lactose intolerant. Which is common when you have loose bowel movements for so long. So, I was breastfeeding at the time and I cut out all dairy products, after 1 week of lots of rice cereal and bananas, he returned to normal and i ate dairy again with no problem. If you are feeding him formula maybe you could do soy for a week or so? Good luck!

If he's not acting strange, I wouldn't worry about it. Just be sure to keep his little tush medicated with diaper cream! Other than that, hang tight. Teething, especially the first set, are tough!

Good luck!

And you won't always understand everything that your son has. Why does he had runny BMs when he's teething? Your doctor may be able to tell you.

My son had the same symptoms not too long ago and I was told the same thing by my doctor. Seriously, as long as he is happy, playing and has no fever he is fine. I'd cut back on any juice or fruit until his poop goes back to normal. Give him some rice cereal with bananas for a few days and see if that helps.

teething can cause that. But make sure he's getting plenty of fluids, so he doesn't dehydrate. Is he on solids yet? maybe let him have some bananas or rice if he eats that.
