I think teachers should have an alarm button hidden in three areas of their classroom that would have a direct alarm to the P.D. and the office as well, because there isn't always someone available in the office if only alarmed there. They could accompany this with a video system and hands-free audio system where the office and/or P.D. on the other end could query the teacher if the class is alright and act accordingly.
Perhaps the teacher could carry pepper spray or something like that on their key chain or belt, because if some mental midget made way to the classroom at least they could slow them down to get the children to safety.
Other than that, I'm thinking a dart gun might be fair, anything, when it comes to protecting our children and the people who teach them.

Oh for Pete's sake!
That is the most outlandish idea to come along in a grand long time. Geesh! What next? Parking a tank outside the field house?
Just do the right thing and make it damn hard for kids to get guns.
You are an adult therefore if side arms are a hobby of yours I expect you to do the responsible thing and LOCK your side arms down! Better yet, remove the firing pin/ trigger mechanism when not in use. This goes for all those parents out there that "trust" their kids not to touch a side arm when they are left alone. These are the same idiot parents that leave the liquor cabinet unlocked and expect the teens in the house not to touch it. Yeah, sure, right.
If you are as well versed as you say you are then you can field strip your side arm and know how to make any weapon un-fireable. I do. I was a gunners mate. If I can, then the sand crabs who own rifles/shotguns/side arms in the civilian world can.
Personally, I would not want any teacher who is packing around my kid. Also I would never want to put a teacher in a position where they will have to make a decision to kill a child. And if any teacher has the gall to believe they could shoot a child then I sure as hell do not want that teacher around my kid.
Side arms were invented for one reason only and it was not to hunt the evening dinner. They were invented to kill other human beings. Don't arm the teacher, limit or thwart the access children have to guns.

Personally, the way kids are today, in the inner cities, I wouldnt go around the school yard unless I was armed to the teeth! Strong armed robberies, rapes, and all kind of things happen at those schools. Teachers are at a disadvangtage, because a kid can pass a gun through the window, and blow them away and they have no recourse. Nor, can they prevent them from harming other students.
A bad problem would be if they kept it in the desk, and another kid got control of it, then there would chaos and mayhem as kids would probably be shot, because of gang activities and other retributions.
Or, if a child was to overcome a Teacher when he/she has a gun in a holster, and shoots not only them but everyone else that they have a grudge against.
I am not for arming teachers, but, I am for having Police protection in the schools now. In Detroit, and Pontiac Michigan, they have officers in the schools, and the program is doing well. Violence is way down.
I wish you well..

Sure, I have carried for 10 years with a concealed permit. Okay, its bragging, but I am so comfortable with tactics and my weapon that I rate myself higher than the average rookie cop. I never panic and can deliver shots into a target within a second without hitting anything else.
When I started 10 years ago, I was substantially less polished. I would worry more if I had kids about guns in the hands of green scared-y cats than the random possibility of a killer attacking.
But, having no kids, I wish I could pack everywhere. Bank, court, school, on a plane, you name it. I prefer to handle my own self-defense.
Jesse there is pretty right-on. I agree that you mil/LE guys and us folks with CCW permits are very good. But when you play the numbers on this, your likely to have some situations like Jesse describes. In reality, you'd be better-off with increased police prescence in schools.

I'm also ex-military, have taken the hunters safety course, own weapons and know how to handle them. But, what if you or I or somebody like us was a teacher. Would you trust them to be armed?
If the situation was right, the individual was right and the training and precautions were right, then a teacher or two could be armed.
...just my 2 cents.

I'm with ya, man. Being a teacher doesn't mean a person is responsible or dependable. Most are, don't get me wrong, but they darn well better get all your training, too, if they're gonna be turned loose with weapons around children!!

you should really think about it, teachers being irresponsible? thats kind of unheard of. and it's their job on the line and they will probably have to go through the permit attaining pathways as you have had to go through. just think about all the schools when the kids have gotten control of guns outside of school shooting up the place. Now your son/daughter will be safe b/c the the threat now has the possibility to be crushed before heavy casualties take place within the school.

yeah i heard about that, that has got to be the stupidest idea ever what if the freakin' teacher goes all evil and kills all the kids? i mean seriously they could. and yeah like u were saying if one of the kids got a hold of the gun. if it was a little kid and he/she didn't know any better he/she could get hurt. now if it was someone older, then well he/she could just be looking for trouble. ya know what i mean. either way that is the dumbest idea

YES, YES, AND YES! They should have them. Don't listen to those liberal thoughts that come into your mind. People in positions of responsibility and leadership are the MOST QUALIFIED to have them.
