A withdrawal from Iraq now would be seen as a victory for the terrorists and their numbers would grow even more rapidly. Not to mention if we pulled out now we would lose what little world support our government has and world support, I feel, is the only way we can destroy terror. Iraq may not have been the place to start this fight against the terror network, but amidst the civil war over there a lot of terrorists are plotting against us and if we would revamp out militaries goal of occupation, which is slow, and upgrade it to more of a search and destroy type operation, and we defeated the terror network in Iraq, it could very well cripple them, who really knows how many resources they have in Iraq. My point is that if you think the terror network is getting stronger due to the war in Iraq, imagine how strong it would get if they thought they had beaten us in our own war. Cleanse the country of evil, then set up the Democracy, what do you all think? Respectful criticism only please.

Not too mention it would be nice for us to have a dependable, Democratic ally in the region to help keep the area stable.

War is a terrible thing, but Saddam had to go and the U.S. will not abandon the people of Iraq who deserve freedom. Yes we have our problems at home, but these people had undergone many hardships at the hands of Saddam and I, and most of the Iraqi people, are glad he is gone.

We keep hearing how if we pull out, Iraq will fall into civil war, and civil war is the worst possible end result after all of our years there. but why can't we just do this:

Shift ideology completely, admit that our presence there isn't making much of a difference... and then stop pretending like civil war is such an awful thing. Civil war is just an natural growing pain a country must go through before it can continue progressing, afterall the U.S. and countless other countries have gone through it and came out alright in the end. We need to explain that there is nothing we can do to prevent an inevitable civil war, since its what the people of Iraq obviously want...so why not let them have it. Innocents will die of course, but s**t happens, it's war. You can't save everyone. Besides they're dying anyway in record numbers with or without our help.

So if we pull the troops and let the Sunnis and the Shites sort out their crap for the next number of years until theres a clear winner, we can make trade relations with the leader of the winning side, to get access to the oil (since that's really the only reason we went in the first place despite all the rhetoric). And if this new leader doesn't want to play nice, take him out like we did Saddam...let civil war ensue again...repeat ad nauseism.

Ok maybe it's not all touchy-feely like "LETS SPREAD DEMOCRACY!!!" but still it would probably be a better approach since it could actually work, plus it frees up our military for things that actually might make a difference.

Why can't the press just say: If the Iraqis truly wish to have the coalition out. Have peace break out through out their country for 1 year. The coalition would conclude that the area is stable and start packing up. It would take the US at least 6 months to leave. Once they had left the Iraqis if they still wished to have their civil war they could. The outside military couldn't return in time to stop it.

Are the terrorist so scared that the locals might enjoy the wealth they can create in their area with peace that they keep stirring the pot?

You're completely right. We can't leave there until the Iraqi Army can take over. I'm tired of hearing people saying to bring the troops home becuase the outcome would be horrid. Don't listen to any politicians wanting withdrawal...the Iraqis won't be ready for a good while and we still need are forces in the region.

It wouldn't be a victory for the terrorists. Let's look at it logically. Iraq has no established government or capable security force. We got them into the mess and must help them rebuild their self sufficient govt. We must do it quickly as to bring or troops home. In the future we must not rush into wars so blindly and hopefully we'll have a competant president.

YES!! I agree. A good example is Somolia. When President Clinton pulled our troops from the region, it was seen as a victory in the eyes of the opposition. We'd be wise to not make the same mistake.

I understand WHY the democrats want us to leave Iraq... and I agree in a way. It sucks over there, I have family there...
but I really want to know what they would think would happen?

I don't think anyone likes war... and they can talk all the trash they want about how we went there for lies blah blah, that's fine... but do they REALLY think it would be smart to pull out? I need this answered to make their party make sense at all to me!

Here's why! It's NOT about a "war on terror" or "fighting for freedoms". It's REALLY all about THIS!...
