Californians are generally considered to be people who have been born in California since it became a state in 1850.
Mexicans who chose to remain in California after it was ceded to the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (which put an end to the war with Mexico) were called Californios.
I've never heard the term "Califoriano," although that would be a good one to describe the Italians who migrated to California because of its Meditteranean climate that was just perfect for their wine grapes.

Yes, born and raised in the Golden State.
Originally from SoCal, now live in NorCal.
If I had my choice, I would be back in SoCal in a heartbeat. I miss my family and my friends, but my hubby and his small family live in NorCal.
It looks as if I may die here.
It is a shame California was not broken into 3 states: SoCal, Central Cal and NorCal. You know, like South and North Carolina did.
