REM Losing my Religion
lyrics:
Life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

G'day Bill L,

Thank you for your question.

It sounds like Michael Stipe unless you are singing Losing My Religion at a karaoke night. It was a big hit in 1991 from the Out of Time album reaching number 4 in the US.

The title "Losing My Religion" is based on an expression from the southern region of the United States, and means losing one's temper or civility, or "flying off the handle."

In the U.K. it charted at #19. "Losing My Religion" still receives considerable air time and is possibly the best-known R.E.M. song. It won the 1991 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

In November 2004, Rolling Stone magazine listed the song at #169 on its list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

The song was placed on R.E.M.'s Warner Bros. "best of" album In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003 in 2003. It was the only song from Out of Time to get onto the album, as the band left out worldwide top ten hit "Shiny Happy People", amongst other songs.

The song title was used as the title to the second season finale of Grey's Anatomy.

In the Weird Al Yankovic song "Polka Your Eyes out", part of this song is covered, in a polka style.

I have attached sources for your reference.

Regards

Are you losing your religion? We may have to research this to determine if you are in the corner or in the spotlight. Tell me, where you are at, is it dark or light? If its dark, you're in a closet. If its light, you're in the spotlight.

No, it's not you in the corner nor even in the spotlight; it's actually Michael Stipe and he'll thank you for not crowding him.

Losing My Religion.

I was once told by two different people that the song is actually about John Lennon's killer. Certainly some of the lyrcis lend themselves to this, but, it could mean anything (so long since I heard it last)

Great song! But beware of losing your religion, though.
