I'm for it! If someone killed one of my loved ones I don't think they deserve to live either, an eye for an eye. At least for the ones on death row they get to say good bye to their loved ones, their victims didn't get to do that.

For. Capital punishment for a capital crime. In this current climate of advanced forensics and dna testing, scientists can determine more than ever if a person is definately guilty of a crime.
If a person has been convicted and it has been proved beyond all reasonable doubt that he/she is the guilty party, then they should be put to death. And they should be put to death within 5 days....none of this languishing on death row for 17 years nonsense.
These killers have commited a hideous act and taken a loved one away from someone or deprived a family from watching a child grow up and prevented a child from having loving parents. What right do these killers have to sit, at tax payers expense, in prison for countless years, getting fed, watered, housed and generally cared for. Ok, they have lost their freedom but they can still interact with people, they still grow old, they can still read and write letters from their loved ones. the same rights were not afforded to their victims.
It is not so much an eye for an eye - more a case of when they commited their acts, they lost their right to be treated like a civilised human being.
They have made their position and outlook on society clear by their actions and so as a society, we should have the ability to remove threats and dangers from our lives.

My views on the death penalty are kind of extreme, but here goes.
Yes we need the death penalty, just not in its current form.
I think the worst criminal offenders, like the SICK F***ers that shoot little girls in their classroom e.g.. should be tried, convicted, get one (and only one) appeal , and then be put to sleep in order to harvest all their usable organs for patients all over the country who are on waiting lists for kidneys, livers, eyes, etc. If the perpetrator in question is not a match for any potential organ recipient then his death should be turned into a pay-per-view event. Prisons need all the money they can get. Personally I would pay $50 to see a murderous thug get eaten alive by a Bengal Tiger or dropped into a lava pit (although that would be too quick) or something to that effect. Lethal Injection is way too humane for some of these sickos.

I think it puts other innocent people in the position of having to "be the one" to do the deed. What is preferable is either person be put on a rock pile breaking boulders with a sledge hammer and then when they go back to their cell they can view the photos of what they are there for on their walls. This would be a daily reminder of "the why"....
Also, if we would get our families fixed where kids don't have to raise their self-centered, drugged out, drunked out parents and actually got to be young without the weight of a twisted world on their shoulders, we might have hope for tomorrows.
Let's take God out of more parts of our lives and see how well we fare.

The death penalty is murder. It degrades society and it degrades those involved in it.
The innocent are killed with the guilty.
In China 10,000 people are executed every year and anyone charged with murder has a 99% chance of being convicted often on simply their own confession after being tortured.
Is this the sort of society you would like your children to be exposed to?

For it. I think that our penal system is weak and very flawed. If we don't execute the people that kill heartlessly, more than likely they will be let out back to society just so that they can do their crimes again. I don't approve of the "life sentence" thing either. What's the point of keeping a waste to society and of life alive in a cell at OUR expense? That's my 2 cents.

I am against the death penalty.
That's not to say some people don't deserve to die, some people do. However, the legal system is definitely flawed. We have to accept our legal system, and we must punish criminals. However, killing them is too permanent. At least if we find out later they didn't do it, we can let them out of prison. you can't unring that bell (capital punishment)
