I was hired at job 3 yrs. ago. I have not had benefits for 3yrs. I had the opportunity to take benefits or opt out for $3 more an hr. I have been making this same wage for my lengh of employment. now they want to take this $3 an hr. away from those of us who have it. if that is what we were hired at can they legally take it away. I will be losing almost $500 a month with out the extra.

Unless you are covered by a union contract they can pay you what ever they want. As long as the pay rate meets minimum wage guidelines for your state.

It would seem a tad bit unfair if they were not taking away the benefits of those that chose them instead of the pay.

In any case I would start looking for another job.

Do you really want to work for a company that thinks this is an ok way to treat employees?

Im afraid they really CAN take it away. Once I was working at a place and was a manager making $15 an hour- and after I cleaned house-hired all new people-and brought business WAY WAY WAY up for them they wanted me to hang around but at $8 an hour! Still doing the same job just for almost half the pay! I quit of course! U cant get unemployment when u quit right? WRONG! Even they agreed with me when I quit and I DID get unemployment from them! Call an attorney and who knows there may be a clause or loop hole and he may be able to help u out. Id start looking for a new job. Why work for a place who doesnt care about their employees! I sure wouldnt. My heart goes out to u

I don't think that they can just take it away in less they are providing you with full benefits. Call your local unemployment office and talk with them about it they should be able to tell you whats legal and not in your county.

Yes, they can. It's unfortunate for you, but there are a lot of companies that have had to make adjustments in order to survive.
