First of all, I don't really know much about transgendered people, but it I was wondering if most transvestites are men who feel they should be women or if there are just as many women who feel they should've been born a man? If most are men, why is that? Thank you.

I'm asking this as a serious question so don't answer if you're not going to give me a serious answer or if you're just going to make some moronic comment. Okay? Thank you.

Wow, where do you idiots get your information??

Sweetie, a transvestite is someone that dresses as the opposite gender. It goes no further than that. Most WOMEN are openly tranvestites, but think nothing of it because it's societally accepted for them to do so. Ponder this one for a second: Did you put your jeans on today or did you wear a skirt?

Naturally, you just see more about men because, admittedly a lot of them look funny in a skirt. Contrary to popular belief, most male transvestites are STRAIGHT. They are very happy being men and very happy with their women. They just occasionally enjoy feeling what a woman feels when she puts on her clothes.

Transvestites and Transsexuals are related, as per they both fall under the "Transgender" umbrella term, but they are NOT the same thing.

Ponder this: Eddie Izzard is an open transvestite. Does he have any intention of getting surgery? Heck no! He likes his "buddies" thank you.

Commonly, transvestites are homosexuals who are advertising their preference in the relationship. They enjoy resembling women but don't usually want to be women. Crossdressers, meanwhile, are usually heterosexuals with a fetish for wearing women's clothes. There is something about that that excites them. They usually don't want to be women either, they are men. Lesbians, likewise, can and do dress as men at times and are essentially transvestites themselves, but with the masculinization of women's fashions several years ago they are not as often or as obviously noticed. Then too, two women can publicly kiss in greeting without so much as an eyebrow raised, when two men, in Western society cannot kiss even in greeting without gathering attention broadly.

Transgender folk, meanwhile, are often in the company of these, but they are different. A transgender-oriented woman believes she is or should be a man and she will often dress the part not because she is a butch lesbian but it is a comfort to her to be what she believes she really ought to be. A transgender-oriented man, meanwhile, can be in the company of transvestites and crossdressers, but wearing the attire and such of women is not a fetish thrill or an advertisement to get a homosexual copulative partner but is a comfort because he really believes he should be a she, and often hates being the man he physically is stuck with. Not all complete the change (it is difficult, expensive, and has many risks), but that is the ambition--to be what the person believes he or she really should be. That is different. Some of those are proud of being different while others want it kept hushed . They have felt like a freak long enough and want to feel normal and quietly live normal lives. The numbers tend to bear out that roughtly 1 transwoman acknowledges that experience for about every 5 men who do as well. This is actually good because fitting a woman out as a man is tremendously more complicated and often less successful than fitting a man out as a woman.

Hi. Transvestites are cross dressers. It's about desiring to dress as the opposite sex, but pretty much ends there. Many cross dresses are straight. Similarly, many have no desire to actually be the opposite sex.

Transgendered people believe they were born in a body that does not match the gender of their mind. I don't know whether or not the ratio is consistent between men and women, but would guess there's not a huge difference. The decision to pursue surgery, however, may be influenced by the state of the surgical art.

Statistically speaking, yes, there are a lot of transvestite men than women. In Asia, there are a lot of transgendered who have undergone sex change in Thailand because the cost there is very cheap. As with transgendered women, most of them are comfortable being a 'bull dyke' and only few of them feel strongly enough to undergo sex change operation. Hope this helps ...

Wow, some amazingly stupid people looking for points! I am married to a female to male transgendered person (FTM). To be honest, no one has ever done a study of weather there are more MTF or FTM people. Probably because they do their best to hide, and blend in. In the media, however, is always the joke "she's a he". It never goes the other way around...because men are far more prone to the "freak out" and therefore it's comic gold. I can tell you, from my experience in the Transgender community, there are a lot of both - at all different stages.

Wow, you've got some intelligent answers here, haven't you? I apologise on behalf of the human race for the ignorance and indifference of some people. I think that there are just as many girls as guys, but it seems to be more socially acceptable (haha!) for men to dress as women. It's more commonly seen in movies, etc. I do know some women (including my girlfriend) who feel they were born with the wrong bits.
