Can anyone tell me the hands in Michigan rummy? How many decks are needed and how to count the points? I played it years ago and want to play with my kids.

As far as I can remember, Michigan rummy is played with a set of pots. There's a kitty, a pot for the K & Q of hearts, a pot for 8,9,10 of the same suit. You start with the lowest card of the first person dealt and everyone plays the next card of the same suit (if I play the two of hearts, the only thing played next is the 3 of hearts) you alternate color, but always have to start with your lowest card. And whoever plays the cards labeled on the pots, takes the money. Whoever goes out first, gets the kitty, and so much money for every card still in the hands of everyone else (if we were playing pennies and you go out and I have 6 cards, I give you 6 more pennies.) hope that helps.

500 rum, also called pinochle rummy, Michigan rummy, rummy 500 or 500 rummy, is a popular variant of rummy. The object of the game is to score points by laying down and laying off cards as in regular rummy, in matched sets of three or four, and in sequences of three or more cards of the same suit (some play starting at four or more cards of the same suit). Aces are high or low; they may be played after the king or before the two card.
