I've just gotten finished explaining on another question how the corporations have found ways to avoid paying taxes, so the burden of paying down the Bush generated national debt falls on the individuals.

The corporations pay one third of the income taxes, individuals pay two thirds.

This inbalance came about through soft money given to our elected officials by big corporate interests.

In this manner, they bought our elected officials and the corporations have foreign investment schemes to avoid paying taxes.

This is the system as it evolved over many years, and for those of you who wish to wave Chinese made American flags, think about who will face the burden of paying down a national debt at 8.5 trillion dollars.

Having said that much, go and make some babies. That will take care of it.

The government gets its money from taxes, which come from American businesses and individuals. External debt? I'm not sure what you mean, but if you're talking about the billions of dollars we loan out to other countries to keep them stable and help them rebuild in times of disaster, we need to collect what we can from those who can afford it. The rest is a burden to the U.S. taxpayers, unfortunately.

American businesses and businessmen contribute about 80% of the American budget, so either way, they ARE going to pay it. Actually, their grandchildren will pay it.

Every American will pay it indirectly through reduced services, benefits, wages, etc.
