Yes you can have sticks of RAM that are different size, but they need to be the same type, and should be the same speed. And for an extra tip, don't buy cheap or obscure brands. You will get better performance and less crashes with good brands like Kingston, Crucial, or Corsair. Other parts you can go cheap, but not the RAM.

yes but it has to the the same ramcard what you have in the pc now you can use a 512 and a 128 mbr card but it has to be the same type of card

of course but chek its speed. it will run at the lower speed of the ram.

eg. 1 512mb ram, pc3200(400mhz) + 1 256mb ram, pc2700(333mhz) .... it will run at 768mb, 333mhz.
