Genetic code is the set of rules by which information encoded in genetic material (DNA or RNA sequences) is translated into proteins (amino acid sequences) by living cells. Specifically, the code defines a mapping between tri-nucleotide sequences called codons and amino acids; every triplet of nucleotides in a nucleic acid sequence specifies a single amino acid

Ok, i've read the 1st three answers and it was a little complex(also, it was cut and paste) was for my liking.

simply put, codons are 3 alphabets from the DNA sequence.
eg, AAA - 1 codon
AAA GGG - 2 codons

each codon represents an amino acid.

Genes are segments of our DNA that code for inherited traits. Genes code for proteins and proteins are made of amino acids. There are four bases that are found in DNA. They are nicknamed for their first letter, A,G, C, and T. Every three letters (bases) code for a different amino acid and this three letter code is called a , guess what, a codon.
