What does it means when the oil pressure gauge pointer stays closer to the "H" not on the "H" but heading that way. whether the car has been setting for hour or driving it never moves. I had a oil change two months ago. This just started like maybe two days ago.

Hi Tina, I have been working on cars for most of my 54 years. If your engine is not rattling I would not be afraid of this problem. When you loose oil pressure, the engine rattles loudly. I would think from what you indicate that the gage or sending unit is bad. It could even be a loose wire! As others have stated, H is a good thing! If you are frightened by the problem, then by all means get it to a mechanic. ASAP. But, I hope that you are not beside yourself with fear. It sounds minor. In some cases, the oil pump relief valve will stick and cause high oil pressure. But this is very rare. Again, no rattle, no fear. Have it checked out, but do not panic.

The "H" stands for high oil pressure. Check your oil level with the dipstick. If it's OK find a shade tree mechanic who can check the pressure with an aftermarket gauge. The oil pressure on the gauge should be somewhere between 20 and 65 psi. Don't worry if the oil pressure falls. Your vehicle has fuel injection and the running signal is the oil pressure. Lose oil pressure and the fuel pump shuts down. This is a safety feature in case the car is in an accident and the engine is not running. The fuel pump shuts off to avoid pumping gasoline everywhere and causing a fire.
High oil pressure is not a problem, it means that the engine is is good shape.

Its not an oil pressure gauge its the temperature. H for Hot. Maybe your radiator is having less water, or if your car is a little old you need some radiator flushing to remove some subsided particles inside. Either of the two, if you run your van with it and hit the H, its fatal either you change your engine and will cost you more. Try to see when you put water if there is any leak.

Any time a vehicles oil pressure is not good, there is a risk of serious damage to your engine. Several things can cause the oil pressure to (not be high enough). Not enough oil,bad piston rings ect. I would have a professional mechanic look at it,and find out exactly what is the problem: Being a vehicle mechanic myself,I keep any vehicle I drive in good condition. But if you are not mechanically inclined get it taken care of,before you wind up either replacing your engine,or replacing your car.

don't know what your car says when it says H...maybe it means "hot".
When my car's red light came on I had about 1 mile to get to my home, all downhill so I let it drive me home without much effort on my part. When I got home I lifted the hood and smoke came out and the water was dry and there was oil all over. One mechanic said the oil cap has lost its seal and to buy another oil cap and I did. But another mechanic said there's an oil leak somewhere and that he was going to pressure wash it to get the oil off of the belts and then will look for the leak. So what I'm saying is for you to see if there is any leak, also check the fluids (radiator and oil) and if anything is low then fill it to the mark. Take your vehicle in and have a mechanic check it over.

Are you sure you are looking at the oil pressure gauge and not at the temperature gauge? If it is the temperature gauge, stop driving immediately and get it checked.

If it is the oil gauge, then you may have a faulty gauge, faulty oil pressure sending unit, faulty oil pump, or simply too much oil in the engine.

Check the oil dipstick. Pull it out, wipe it, put it back in, and then pull it out again. Make sure the oil level is within the marks. If it is too high, you need to have some of the oil removed. Otherwise, you could have one of the problems outlined above.

It will probably be ok to drive it a little bit, but definitely get it checked out.

It's best to have a guy or some one at the garage check it for you. It might mean that your car is low in oil. Wait you said the pointer does not move? It could mean you have a bad guage too. I would advice have some one or a guy check it out for you as soon as you can. It may be a bad thing here.

Its most likely a gauge problem, get it checked with a master gauge at the mechanics,it should be safe enough to drive there as H means high oil pressure.Dont go on a road trip with it though.

If you are familiar with where your oil pressure needle is at all times a small drop wont hurt and more than likely it is the oil cenion unit going bad and making your oil pressure guage a little aratic but you should go to some one who is trained to diagnose the problem

THE oil pressure gauge MAYBE IS STUCK OR BROKED if it hot like you say you should not drive on real hot oil but it does the same when it park for an hour so the gauge is broke or the oil sensor
