I'd like to tell you a story.
When I was in college I picked up a book about Astral Projection and started practicing the beginning techniques. The first one was a meditation, which went over well. The next one was sitting at a table and placing your hands palm down on the top of it, then trying to move your astral hands through the table and them placing them back into your hands. Not easy but I thought I was starting to get it. One night I climbed into bed around midnight and decided to do the hand thing while I was lying on my back. Well, I must have fell asleep because the next thing I knew my toes were touching something. I put my hands up and felt the ceiling. When I opened my eyes I saw the ceiling about an inch away from my face. THen I fell 8 feet to the ground, spraining my finger and bruising the entire side right side of my body. I crawled to the bathroom and dry heaved from the shock. When I crawled back into bed the clock said 12:30. Only 30 minutes had passed. I'm not really sure exactly how this happened to me. But I know it did because of the bruising and sprained finger. So don't do what I did, don't fall asleep while trying to astral project because you might just accidently take your body with you and end up on the ceiling!!!!! I've only told a few people about that experince. One person told me that they had woken up on the ceiling before. But just imagine my roomates hearing about this LOL. They all thought I was bonkers.

First, learn to meditate;
Second, learn a specific Meditation called the Fountain
(it energizes your non-physical organs, preparing you - - - you wouldn't go swimming without knowing how to float, would you?)
(you can do both by getting the Lewellyn Guide to Astral Projection, by Denning and Phillips);
Third study up on 'Remote Viewing' (which is related);
Fourth, get an empty cardboard box, draw colored gridlines on the inside, put in some coins, dice, gems, stones, small things, close the box, shake it, and practise projecting into it, seeing which things are where, and then drawing that, and the next day carefully opening the box and taking a picture of the contents, and compare your drawing and the picture - - - when they are relatively similar you are ready to explore the world, solar system, galaxy, inner planes, outer planes, the communal sunconscious, the Qaballah.....

ok so you want to know how to astral project, but you do not want anyone to ctually teach you anything about it just tell you how it is done.
here goes.
you focus your mind (comes with experience)
you attune your mind to the vibrational energy around you. (again comes with experience)
you meld the mind and the soul
(something else that requires a great ammount of practice and experience.)
then you pull all the energy that you can from the earth and the stars and the moon and the entire cosmos...(yeah experience)
you use that energy to create a protective shield...((you know the drill)
then you slowly focus your mind outside of your body. once you can keep the image of the room that you are in in your mind you are ready to explore more. you should start with guided meditation...(that takes experience.)
and then you have to know how to get back to this world and to re-enter your body. you need alot of experience for this part......
***************************************************
unless you are a practicing witch or Pagan you have no need for this. which is why i gave you crap instructions. the EXPERIENCE of attaining the ability to project your soul into the astral realm is 90 percent of the knowlege that you need to do it safely. i could not in good concience give you the end knowlege and have you end up lost in the astral and wasting away in the physical.

use clairvoyance instead, much safer. If you must astral project, there are lots of good books on it. they all pretty much say the same thing. bottom line is usually if you are ready to do it you will... If you are going to jump into this, you should at least have an idea of what's out there around this planet b4 u do it. Read this short, easy to read book.
The Astral Plane by C.W. Leadbeater. U can find it on amazon for about 10 bucks.

Some people can learn how to do it, however most people it's just a natural occurrence. Read Silvia Brown's books, she really goes into in depth detail. She says that when you are sleeping and all of a sudden you feel trapped like someone is pressing down on you, clawing/grabbing at you, etc. It means that you are either leaving your body or coming back in. So if you have experienced these things then maybe you already are doing it. According to her everyone does it at sometime or another. Good Luck!!

I don't think there is a definitive 'how to' guide. For most people, its a part of a dream state or a meditative state. Try this, right before going to sleep, imagine right down to the last detail somewhere you want to visit, even if its just outside in the yard. See where that takes you, you might be surprised :)

Before you fall asleep at night, when you are totally relaxed, visualize where you want to go. See it in detail in your mind. Picture yourself there doing what you want to do. Actually live it in your mind. Furnish as much detail as you possibly can do. Hold those thoughts in your mind as you drift off to sleep. Do that every night until you achieve astral projection.

Native teaching use DREAMING. It takes practice, but helps
relieve the feeling od dying that keeps many from having the
experience.
You want to reach the brain wave state between wakefulness,
and deep sleep.
Good luck!
2 Corinthians 12.
Paul also said, "WE are confident rather, to be absent from the body, and present with the Lord."

Try searching spiritweb.org and related links. I think it involves self-hypnosis. There are also risks to consider before committing to such an attempt, though. Read up on it first.
