I don't live in Arizona, so I am unfamiliar with what they classify as an illegal weapon. In Michigan a switchblade is illegal, so just having one is illegal. Using it, regardless of the threat danger to yourself would just compound the infraction of that law. Apply for a concealed weapons permit and carry a gun to kill them legally.

I despair at some of the answers above. The best way do defend yourself in a knife attack is to run away. If that option isn't open to you, and you are being attacked by someone who is brandishing the knife, letting you know they have a knife, then get an equaliser, a stick, bottle, knife, chain, chair etc. If this is real life though and not a dojo or hollywood studio, then you will only know they have a knife when you're in the emergency room. So if you're really worried about being attacked by a knife wielding thug you're going to have to think like a knifer. Enrol in a very, very good Fillipino Martial Art and study hard. I also suggest reading "Put 'em Down and Take 'em Out" by Dom Pentecost. Control their knife hand and forward pressure. However you'll probably get cut or stabbed.

arizona is open carry state, why mess with a knife when a 45 auto will do just fine, preferably in condition 1 ( ****** and locked ), though you need more training to carry one, besides knives are a close fighting weapon ( switch blades are weak weapons for fighting, a good single edge knife is far superior ), and ideally in a fight you want distance from you and the attacker, as unless you are good with a knife ( and carrying a switchblades indicated you are not ), you more likely to be the stabee than the stabor.

Don't worry about the knife, throw it away buy a ball bat it will be a lot more effective. Have you not heard the old saying " do not take a knife to a gun fight " When you pull out your switch blade and they pull out their 357 semi-automatic you better have some good running shoes.

Even if it wasn't legal to, I would. If someone was attacking you and you had no other way of defending yourself, then you should use it. If you got in trouble for it, you should tell them every detail of what happened. I'm sure you'd be fine.

it is illegal to carry a knife our ant weapon outside of your own property. If you are defending yourself from an intruder within your property boundaries than it is legal. Outside of your property boundaries it is illegal.
