My students have a 15 minute recess on a blacktop with no playground equipment. I have considered buying jump ropes, but have not been able to find any yet.

I need PEACEFUL, easy to organize games to play with 20 students. I want them to have fun without going crazy!

I always liked playing with an open parachute when I was in first grade. All the kids stand around the chute an pull it up and down.

4 square is good. Each corner of the blacktop is assigned a letter or a number. The kids move around (walking, running, anything you like) while some music plays or a person claps. When the music stops/person stops/whistle blows, everyone needs to get into a corner as fast as they can.

Have each corner letter written on paper and placed in a can. Pull one out and read it. Everyone in that corner is out. Put the paper back in the can, and do the whole process over again. Play until there is just one child left.

OR: hopscotch (with sidewalk chalk and some bean bags)

OR: Drop the Handkerchief- like duck, duck, goose only one child carries a handkerchief and drops it behind another student. That student must chase the first.

Jump Ropes are great. Also any other physical activity that gets their blood pumping - helps oxygenate the brain which calms them. How about stuff like Red Rover? I bet the rules for that might be on the internet - basically, two groups. One side yells "Red Rover Red Rover let (X) come over" - and that person runs over to the other side but his/her side run after her and try and grab her back before she makes it. At the end, the side with the most kids wins. Or here's another, Red Light, Green Light. Or how about a game of kick the can?

Being an ex Navy Seal, I've got the perfect recess activity for those little rug rats. Get around 5 1/2 lbs of C-4. Divide it equally among all the kids. Have them make little figurines out of that stuff. C-4 molds and shapes just like clay! Those little ones will have a blast!

Duck Duck Goose
The Children sit in a big circle
pick one child to sit inside the circle holding an eraser
the child gets up, walks to stand on the other side
of the circle, the child walks around the circle touching
each child they pass on the shoulder saying DUCK
to each child. then they pick one child by dropping the
eraser on the child's lap and saying GOOSE and
run around the circle being chased by the GOOSE
until the child is touched by the Goose and sits in
the circle again as the Duck, or makes it around the
circle to sit in the Gooses empty seat.
The Goose now standing says DUCK, and touches each child's shoulder.
The Children loved it.

Hey poobear, that was probably a pretty funny answer if I could figure out what the heck you were trying to say. Hint: stop typing with your feet and try spell check once in a while.
