A company called Crane makes the paper for U.S. currency according to specs from the Treasury Dept. .
Artists engrave the image of the bill into metal plates, and copy them until there are enough to print a whole sheet (maybe fifty copies). There is a test printing by hand; then the production department takes over and makes large numbers of money sheets. These have to be inspected and then the serial numbers printed on. (I think it is all still printed flat, slower than rotary press). Then cutter, trimmer, stack and wrap machines make it ready to ship to the banks.

The U.S. Mint orders the paper from a special producer, then prints the dollar, then delivers it to the Federal Reserve for distribution.

U.S. Bureau of Printing and Engraving. Their headquarters is here in DC right across the 14th Street Bridge. Big ugly building, but they actually print big sheets of money there. Way back when, you could actually arrange to do a tour if you knew somebody who worked there, and under heavy guard, to watch them print the money. I believe that there may be a couple of other printing locations somewhere around the country, but the DC location is the headquarters.
