Everytime someone asks a question regarding how to get acceptance from people, be it friends, dates, employers, etc, it seems like the automatic response is for everyone to spit out "Be Yourself!!" I've followed that advice all my life, I've never actually tried to change myself, but I have no friends, never had a boyfriend and everyone around me seems to get annoyed at me and people avoid me. So I'm being myself, and it's scaring everyone off. It's been like this my whole life (even during early childhood) and I go to school in a very large city in HUGE schools. So, should I NOT be myself?

BTW, this happens with both paid jobs and even volunteer jobs! It happens with EVERYBODY, even strangers. I just seem to, I don't know, make people roll their eyes and walk away.

You can NOT be yourself and maybe that will work short-term, but since being yourself is easy, eventually you'll be yourself and your "friends" will begin to question why you've changed...then you're back at square one. Maybe you're trying to be friends with people that don't share the same interests, if that's the case then clearly you just need to associate yourself with people who have the same type of personality.

Just out of curiousity, are you sarcastic or have a dry sense of humor? Alot of people don't warm up to that from the get-go and you have to ease them in to your style of humor...just a thought.

Sounds like you're not too friendly, so if thats the case don't be yourself. Try to fake actually being friendly and nice, it'll work wonders on your social life.
