Oh my, I did the same thing earlier today. I had just finished my manicure for Homecoming on Saturday, and my nail broke. On top of that, my polish wasn't all the way dry, so it literally melted off of my fingers. Man, it's been a bad day for nails, hasn't it? At least I'm getting a professional manicure on Saturday.
Good luck with that nail, though. Just clip it then file it down, and you'll be okay.

Only if it gets infected and the infection spreads through your body so quickly/strongly that your immune system can't fight it off...
Otherwise, I think you'll live. Put some ice on it to stop the throbbing. Wash your hands really well with soap. Then put some Neosporin on and cover it with a band-aid... you'll probably be fine...

You will die eventually.... but most likely not from the nail. Just cut it off with nail clippers....
