I have been using Mirena for 3 years. I found that it works very well for me. The string is short so my husband can't feel it when we have intercourse. I am one of the lucky women who has no period at all while using Mirena! Like others have said, if you just had a child your cervix will still be dilated enough for it to be a painless procedure. You will have some cramping and spotting for a few days. I think it's great because I don't have to worry about anything but checking the placement of the string every month. If you are still having a menstrual cycle then you should check the string after your cycle. I don't have to worry about remembering my pills or using a condom. Your OB/GYN will give you a card with the insertion date and removal date on it. Make sure you keep it in case you changes doctors because they need to know about it.

I am 21 and have had the Mirena for about 1 1/2 months. So far I have not had any bad side effects. I have not had a child so the insertion for me was rather painful, but since your cervix has been opened before it should be nothing for you. They say that you will usually spot for about the first 2-3 months and then have a very light period or none at all. I spotted everyday for about 3 weeks and have had nothing since. It wasn't bad at all I just had to wear a panty liner.

Im also 22 an have 2 children and had my mirena inserted 3 yearsa go when I had my 2nd child I think I was okay with not having anymore children and I went for it. Do know that you run a low rsik of becominf infertile at the time of removal. If your in a commited relationship go for it bc if you happen to catch an infection its harder to treat!

My side effects were mild spotting 3 months and after that no period at all best of luck and CONGRATS

hey, i just got it inserted last Tuesday! so far so good. my best friend's had it for 2 months now. she loves it. you do spot for a couple months at first, although i haven't yet, but she did. she said it didn't hurt having it inserted, i say it hurt like a *****. but she's had 2 children and i've had none so that's a big difference. but it's good for 5 years and i really like that! they do have a website that tells you of possible side effects but they're no worse than the pill in my opinion and i've been on the pill for 15 years. i had no side effects so far except bleeding the first day. that's it. also my doctor said it's more effective than having your tubes tied b/c they could grow back. the website is www.mirena.com. Good luck!
