i need help understanding what this means
All Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness - That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness”.

Sovereignty resides in the people whose power could change the government. Thus, every citizen has the right to choose their leader or the government that he wanted to be. Exercise the right in the proper manner and there will be a good government.

The Declaration of Independence was basically an open letter to King George III to lay out and explain the reasons to sever the bonds between the colonies and Britain. The intent of the document wasn't so much to tell George anything, but to explain it to the world in hopes that they, particularly France and Spain, would at least stay neutral if not assist the colonies in the war they expected to follow this announcement.

So what your quoted segment means is that people are born free, and to protect freedom we as humans join together and form governments, and when governments don't do that anymore, we have the natural born right to tell them to get stuffed and start over.

Yes, that means exactly what you think it does, but do bear in mind that the authors of the Declaration were fully aware that Britain would express displeasure with guns.

Every person born on this planet is born free. They don't get the right to be free from their government, they are born free. Governments lawfully exist ONLY to protect these rights from trespass by other people and by govts. If the govt itself harms people's freedom, then, the governed can get rid of that government and start another one that will protect their rights.

everyone is equal so we shoudlnt have a king riling over us
we should have our rights and own government and be able to all be treated as equals instead of us and the King ruling over us
