Does anyone know if a phone which has Verizon Wireless' insurance cover can be replaced following physical damage which has caused the phone to no longer work?

I've heard that most mobile phone companies have insurance policies which cover water damage claims, but I wasn't sure if the same coverage was available for physical damage claims, such as cracks or dents caused by accidentally dropping the phone on a hard surface.

Yes, I put my 13 yr old nephew on my Verizon plan and I fortunately got his line with the landlock insurance. About a year into the plan he dropped the phone in the road and a car ran over it, smashed it...needless to say it didn't work anymore. I called up Verizon and they transferred me over to the insurance company. I had to give them the ID number of the broken phone (which they subsequently de-activated) and they sent me a new phone which was very similar to the one that broke. There was a $50 deductible which I charged to my credit card. After I got the new phone, I realized that I could have easily bought a phone on ebay for that amount, so I cancelled the insurance. In summary, you definitely will be covered by the insurance. If they start hassling you, then tell them about me; I can send you more info if you like.

My brother accidentally dropped his phone and went to Verizon. The insurance didn't cover it and he ended up paying about $100 plus the activation fee for the same exact phone. The insurance is a waste.

I believe Verizon covers physical damage. If it didnt, why would anyone bother to carry it?
