Why is it that we get taxed on our hard earned money so much.We get taxed before we get our paychecks and we get taxed when we spend it. If I remember the people that sopossedly founded this country left England because they didn't want to pay a tea tax or stamp tax. That was nothing compared to the kind of taxes we pay today. I pay for social security but it's not even gonna be around in 20 yrs. I get taxed for medical but have none. By the way don't get an earache and go to the emergency room it will cost you around $800.00 dollars. I would have hate to see what they charge you for some serious care. F@*K TAXES.Don't be a slave to the system.Be aware of what is going on in this country and maybe we can change it. Ya right I'll be paying taxes till i die and so will you.

America has somewhat low taxes, depending on where you live. While residents of New York pay upwards of 50% in taxes, for the most part we pay around 30%-40% in income tax. Many European nations pay 60% or more. And as a historical note, the pilgrims left England to escape religious persecution. American colonists, almost 200 years later, revolted; in part; because of the tea and stamp tax. However, without those taxes the roads you drive everyday, your parks, police, fire, all civil service would not exist. So take that into consideration next time you start complaining about taxes.

Why? Because once upon a time, Democrats got control of the government. They raised taxes and instituted all kinds of socialist programs (mostly in FDR's time). Then by the time the Republicans got into the driver's seat again, people were so used to having the "right" to welfare, unemployment, etc., that there was little the Republicans could do about. Now everybody, Republican and Democrat, have grown so accustomed to having all that money, they "can't" lower taxes to much (and the Dems was to keep increasing it). BTW, did you know that when the 16th Amendment (income tax) was enacted, the tax was never supposed to rise above 1%? Scary how far we've come, huh?

At least in Canada you have free medical care for your taxes. The reason we have such high taxes here is because the harder you work the more the libs want from you. Keep the money we pay to other countries who have their hands out for our money but laugh at us behind our backs. Stop supporting the UN that does nothing but fight us on everything we do in the world.Get the countries we baled out during wars to pay the debt they owe ( like France). Boy could we save money if the goverment had to work like we do , If you paid them by the hour we might see more things being done for the people. The more work they did the more money they make. Like us common people do every day.

If you get something for it--government maintaining infrastructure of cities, helping to pay for medical costs and research, as well as funding education, then it isn't all bad. You're not taxed very much at all. Many northern European countries surrender half their income to the government, but they have excellent social programs and live better lives than in many other countries.

I see your point if it's being abused by the government, though.

My guess is that it's because our government spends so much, thus requires similar compensation from their citizens. Do you know JUST how much our government spends on the military? Far far far more than any other country in the world. I think maybe 12 times as much as the next most expensive national military.

One fighting jet from the 1980s could feed a third world country today for months maybe years. We have PLENTY of military hardware, not to mention troop training, provisions, mercenary outfit contracts and the like.

Also, let us not forget the bribes, demostic and to countries and organizations overseas.

We get taxed so much to pay for all of the lazy people in our country who find it necessary to do nothing and expect the same benefits as those of us who work and pay taxes. The dirty bum who sleeps on park benches gets food and shelter because of the taxes working people pay. And although our taxes seem high, they are actually relatively low in comparison to other countries. However, as Democrats get more control of our government, our taxes continue to rise.

You are soo right. Lets stop paying taxes so we don't have to have imported cars, streets to drive on, government officals, schools, jails, police officers, firemen. We don't need any of those things to have a good life.

you are an idiot trying to stir up trouble and i wish you would stop being dumb and get over the fact that the government taxes you.

We live in the greatest country in the world, and all YOU can do is complain that the government is taking a small percentage of your paycheck. your'e dumb.

Support the "fair tax bill" and it won't be a problem.

Enjoy what you have, the great socialist countries that our left loves so much taxes their citizens far more. Somebody has to pay for all the freebies.

What was the question? Oh, yeah, "Why do U.S. citizens get taxed so much?"

Because our legislators, both Federal and State want to spend so much. Be careful what you ask for, you just may get it, along with a bill for 5-10 times what it costs.

To all you Democrat-bashing Neocons, if you were paying attention, you would see that during the Clinton administration, taxes did not go up, at least not for me, and yet, for almost the first time in U.S. history, WE HAD A FINANCIAL SURPLUS!!! First time ever, the budget was balanced! I lived in D.C. at the time, as a working journalist, so my memory of it is very clear.
Now, under Bush, we have, again, an enormous deficit.
Explain that!
