No offence but I would hardly call America an empire. Generally, an empire is defined as a state that extends dominion over areas and populations that are culturally and ethnically distinct from the culture at the center of power.
Although on Wiki there's some debate. " In one sense, the U.S. is not an empire, because it lacks a legal emperor, king, despot, or other hereditary head of state. In another sense, the U.S. satisfies the definition of an empire, because it possesses sovereignty over territories which it has not annexed as states, such as Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam and in the past the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands and the Philippines."
But to answer your question, no I don't think the "American Empire" is the the Roman Empire of old. :)

The aggrieved they spend so much time on Yahoo Answers complaining that nothing gets done.

The United States is not an empire.
Also, it does not possess foreign dominions, although it does possess foreign holdings.
It does not have a proper foreign policy, nor a support mechanism to keep an empire together.
It would also have to rewrite the Constitution.
China, on the other hand, can be likened to an empire.
It had an emperor, and still possesses the trappings of empiric statehood.

I think the roman empire was very advanced compared to the neighbouring countries, thats why it was so successful.
America has only a slim advantage in technology (europe is producing war planes, korea nuclear weapons, everyone guns) so it will not be as successful as rome.

Interesting question, as there are numerous vandals in the US (just check any wall and you'll see their spray-painted insignia) and there is a Goth subculture. Who will win? Gosh, where is Spiderman when you need him....

It's such a bloated, self indulgent, consumerist society that eventually I believe it will implode with no external factors. That said, Disney world is mega!
