it was originally a closed beta testing program, but I am not sure why they still insist on the invite thing....if you want an invite let me know, as I've got some.
Gmail is very good though. I do love it.

You dont, you just need a cell phone, I did it. You just type your cell number and it sends you a activation code through your cell phone, they dont charge you, but your provider might, most of the time they wont. And if they do it wouldnt be more than a dollar max...
If you want an invite, I'm sure i could invite you! Just mail meh :D
