Back in the day, studios would list twins' names in the credits to look like they were one person. For instance, the twins that played Carrie on "Little House on the Prairie" were listed as Lindsey Sidney Greenbrush. When in fact, they were a set of twins. So, confusion can come up with twins that take up a single role. But, the media has pretty much covered the fact that the Oleson twins are actual twins.

They are twins, but they played the same person (Michelle Tanner) on Full House back in the 80's with each girl doing half the role. The simplest way to tell that they are diffrent people (besides that they often pose with each other) is that they have different color eyes from each other.
