This can be a tricky question... 119 is a common answer, because there are 119 division I-A teams in the NCAA. There are also 119 I-AA teams, which gives you a total of 238 division I teams in the NCAA.
Now, the I-A teams are the major colleges that are on TV each Saturday and they currently play for a MNC (mythical national championship) determined by the BCS system where the top 2 teams at the end of the regular season play each other for the BCS title.
I-AA teams have a playoff system in place (similar to division II and division III as well as NAIA colleges). The playoff system starts with regional matchups that progress into a final game (kinda like the NCAA basketball March Madness we follow).
