Halloween, October 31, is the modern tradition of an ancient pagan holiday. Commonly referred to as Samhain (pronounced Sow-en) by many pagan faiths, it is the celebration of the New Year. It is a harvest festival (hence the pumpkins and cornstalks), a celebration of life and light giving fire.. hence bonfires and such. It is also the time of year when the Next World is closest to This one, so you hear tales of ghosts, ancestors, and othr creatures.
Modern day celebrations, for non-pagans, include costumes, trick or treat, and scary stories.

It's just for fun. Costumes and parties. It used to be a fear thing 200 years ago. People really did think the dead came back to life on All Hollow's Eve, the original title.
