It's finally time.

And, we we need to tie it to the inflation rate, like most Europena nations.

Congress has voted themselves a raise 9 times since the
last time minimum wage was increased.
I think our turn is over due.

It's really pointless because that will drive up the costs of everything else & you will actually have less buying power.

The people that it hurts the most are actually those who earn slightly MORE than minimum wage. Let me explain: Say you started at your job flipping burgers or whatever, making the minimum wage. 6 months later, they give you a raise. Then the min wage goes up, but YOUR rate of pay stays the same! It swallowed up your raise. You are now making the same as the min wage kid who just started flipping burgers there yesterday. Is that fair to you? No, it's not. That's the way it is though. Companies who are forced to increase their labor costs due to law, are NOT required to give everyone else a raise at the same time so they do not.

When min wage is increased, businesses must compensate by raising prices of their goods & services, which in turn the min wage earner still cannot afford when they go out to buy things. It creates an economic cycle that the min wage earner cannot escape. The only way to get a real raise is to increase your skills and knowledge so that you qualify for a better paying job.

It's been time, 10 years ago! I think it's ridiculous how, for example, in the state of Nevada we voted for increasing the minimum wage, but why the hell do we have to vote AGAIN to actually make it "law"?! Isn't once enough? Everything else is going up big time in Nevada, except our wages. $5.15 an hour is nothing! If we are having to vote twice on issues, then why didn't we get a second vote during the presidential elections?

Julie J put a lot of thought into this, and I agree.

Since my dad is a business owner... if the minimum wage went up, his prices would go up for his service... it just hurts us all around I think, and that sucks for me cause I never get raises since I'm an independent contractor.

If you want to be European , be my Guest, don't let the door hit
you on way out. However back to your obtuse question. No, It
would solve nothing, its artificial. It would just raise prices for everyone, and those on the bottom , would still suffer. Here is
the answer you don't want to hear, because the truth is often
painful. The illegal immigrants, are taking income opportunities
away from those who get stuck into minimum wage jobs.
Sorry to have to tell you this, but look around, and if you are honest, with yourself, you know , its true.

It's a good idea in theory. Still, do you think Walmart won't raise its prices to accomodate the new payroll? Who shops at Walmart? It won't help keep people from living below the poverty line. Not for a minute.

Even better than raising the minimum wage, Bush ought to dismantle THESE secret and evil plans against U.S. citizens!...
