once a month, your uterus prepares itself to receive a fertilized egg that will become a baby. the walls of the uterus become plump with blood. If there is no fertilized egg, the blood is not needed and so the muscles contract and expel the excess blood that has accumulated.
It's expelled through the cervix and into the vagina and then out.

Mentral? Menstrual or menses. It is the lining that the uterus produces to nourish the potential conceived child. When conception fails to occur, the body sheds that lining and starts the process again for the next month.
