I've decided It's high time to potty train my son, we started this morning and he's basically running around half naked to make it easier to pop him on and off his potty and to know when he has accidents. He's made it about 50 percent of the time so far today, is that good? How have you mothers potty trained your kids? Any personal stories and tips would be appreciated

I'm not rushing or forcing him to do anything, he loves to go on the potty ( I give him toys while he's on it ) and he acts so proud when he does go. He seems ready to me.......

It's way too early to start potty training. Babies at that age don't even have bladder control yet. My daughter is 20 months. She has a potty chair that she likes to sit on (fully clothed with a diaper) and I'm letting her get used to it. She sits on it when ever she wants. I'm going to start showing her soon how to take down her pants and actually go on it. Wait and Good Luck!

You are certainly getting him off to a good start, but 15 months is too young to successfully potty train. This isn't because they don't understand the concept, but because physically, they are not yet able to hold it! I would continue to do what you are doing, but only as the beginning part of the process and do not put any pressure on him.

May I suggest a MARVELOUS book called "Potty Training in Less than a Day". I found a copy at the library and used it for all three of my kids. While the title is perhaps a bit ambitious, the principles for training are sound and, if followed, always work! It takes some commitment on your part, but it is well worth it.

Good luck. Just remember that infancy and toddlerhood go by so quickly. He'll be trained before you know it, most certainly before 7th grade...!

My 'children' are 21, 18 and 9 - sometimes I miss my babies!

I started to potty train my daughter Maddilynn who is now 4 at 18mo. and need less to say she was NOT ready. Very few kids at that age are. I kept trying and trying on and off for months... finally a week after her 3rd birthday she was potty trained day and night with NO accidents. She had the common problem of not knowing when she need to go. When she finaly learned what it felt like... BOOM she was trained. A good book to try (I think it's called) Koko's Potty training guied!! Great book!!! I got it at shopko. GOOD LUCK!!!

I waited until the kids were 2 years old and gave me the signs they were ready. It's not up to you to decide and if the kid isn't ready, you're just going to cause setbacks.

This website has the info on what to look for when the child is ready to potty train. Don't be a rush to train just because you're sick of changing diapers.

At that age, I would take a very LOW pressure approach.
He's still really very young for that. Don't make it a job for him, make sure it's what HE wants to do, and be happy for him, not grateful to him.

It's really kind of a mind game: the first thing the child really has full control over. So, don't let it become a struggle.

If he lapses, don't be surprised. And don't be upset or disappointed.
