I was 12 and was with my Mom and 2 brothers, we saw a huge disk hoverinng over our neighborhood with lights going around it,
just like in the sci-fi movies. It was huge, the size of a football field, and was making a humming sound, it traveld about 4 blocks , low over the houses , went over the Lloyd Building then went straight up, fast and was gone. we called the airforce and they said they had several similar reports and they could not identify the craft and said it was
a Unidentified Flying Object. It was cool, they really said that.

The fact is that most people have so little ability at identifying things, and they are so really bad at reporting things that you can take with a pinch of salt anything from anybody but a seasoned observer.

How the heck would you know it was as big as a footbal field? You would have no idea of the distance, so it would be impossible to judge the size.

For instance, recently a local woman saw a meteorite come down, and reported it came down in the field by her house. It actually came down about 6 miles away.

When the TWA800 jumbo jet blew up some years ago, observers all up and down the east coast gave different stories. For instance, there was some belief that it had been hit by a missile fired from the shore. That's because some people said the flames were going up to the plane. But then the rest of the people said the flames came down from the plane, as one would expect if a plane blew up and fiery pieces dropped.

Isn't it surprising that people who are trained at observing, or spend lots of time observing never see these things. It is always people who only look at the sky when the fancy takes them.

Go ask any seasoned amateur astronomer - people who are out all the time. They will tell you they have never seen anything they could not explain. The British Astromony Assoc has a meteor section and the people that belong to that spend long hours lying for hours on a camp bed where they can see the whole sky.

Sorry, but there aint no mystery that either an astronomer couldn't explain or an aircraft expert could not explain.

It's only termed UFO because it is unidentified by the people who witnessed it, which most time is ignorant and totally untrained obeservers.

Yes. It was back in June of 1982, I think the last Saturday of that month. I was on my way to a Social Club in Surrey in England. On the way to the Club my uncle stopped off at a school that he worked at to feed the wild cats there that lived in the woods. While he was feeding the cats I got out of the car and suddenly everything went very quiet and still. There was not a cloud in the sky nor a sound of a car going by. Suddenly hovering over the gates of the school was a huge cigar shaped machine with lime green body. I shouted frantically for my uncle to come and see the flying saucer. Just as he got to the edge of the woods he saw the machine as it rapidly took off and was out of our sight within a second or two. I must say it was amazing. I often think about it to this day. I never did tell any official person what I saw but I know it was a UFO. No doubt about that. I wonder if anyone else in Surrey, England remembers seeing anything similar to me on a Saturday evening in June 82 around 6.45pm.

Aliens

I.

Poems are like flying saucers at dusk in nineteen fifty-five in boy
hood small town

“If you believe in em you'll
see em

look long enough you'll
see one”

Electric
Magnetic
With people inside just like us only
prettier
smell better

finding here through swirls of light and banks and snowdrifts of stars
never wondered where god is in all that

the clean people watch the spherical compass
that glows the color of oily pools in the edge of the
street after a rain

II.

lie in the grass at dusk
scrutinize the sky to descry the silver ships
they fly with a sound like running
your finger around a wine glass

And they are more just

more in love with it all

than we

And they were more numerous in nineteen fifty-five
but not written

get your flashlight

sail a silver hubcap past my window at dusk

I did, when I was really young. My mom didn't believe me and told me to go back to bed. The next morning, she screamed her way into my room. The UFOs had been seen all over the San Francisco area.
