I know I have been some what negative about the French as of late. So just to even things out I would like to say some positive things. I have been to many cities and towns in France over the years so I am familiar with the people and culture.
One really great thing is that you can fart anywhere, anytime. Nobody cares. They can't smell it over the BO of the people and the piles of dog s*** everywhere.
You never have to return a smile to the waiter or hotel clerk. They only smile when they hand you the bill. Then you can see all the way back to their molars.
Speaking of dog crap, they are very polite about that. My girlfriend and I were in a very nice restaraunt in Sete. When she sat down, her foot landed in a nice fresh pile. The waiter was very nice. He brought a single sheet of paper towel for her to clean her shoe. What service. So how can I disparage the French?

well, they invented the bidet and the toilette even if they don't use.
Nice people, even though they are sore losers (I am talking bout the Soccer World Cup won by Italy)..
