I have a question about finding the formula for these types of questions:

The volleyball team won 28 games and lost 22 games. What percent of their games did they lose? Can anyon help me find the formula out? Thanks!

Repeat 1000 times, it will make your life easier someday. "Percent over one hundred equals IS over OF." or %/100=IS/OF.

Once you put things into this simple formula, cross multiply and divide.

Using your word problem, (22 games) IS what percent OF 50 games. %/100=22/50. Cross multiply, 22x100=2200, 2200/50=44%.

22 IS 44% OF 50. Get it?

There is a commonly used formula, but I prefer my formula. It's simpler and quicker in my opinion. First, add 22 and 28, to get the total of 50. Then, divide 50, the total, by 100. This gets you 1 percent of 50. Now, divide that answer into the figure in which you want to find the percentage of, in this case 22, for the number of lost games. You get 44, indicating they have lost 44% of their games thus far.

So add 28 and 22 to get the total number of games they played. The answer is 50 games. So if they lost 22 games divide that by the total number (22 divided by 50) to get you answer. That equals .44 or 44%
