where the native population is just unfriendly or darn right unpleasant to visitors?

Anywhere along the South Coast, Southerners in general.
The North, South divide is very much in evidence as far as friendliness is concerned. Economically, they're Worlds apart, this is also true on a social scale. Southerners have very comfortable materialistic lives, whereas Northerners still have a sense of community as well as a sense of humour.
Everywhere you go in Britain, there's always ignorance and rudeness, however it just seems to me that Southerners are a lot more hostile and unforgiving as their Northern counterparts.

Take your pick, anywhere in Britain nowadays. Common courtesy is NOT so common anymore. For example, the other day I was in town (Brighton) held a shop door open for a woman with a pushchair, and I didn't get so much as a smile, nevermind a thank-you. Not just her either, happens all the time down south, where the majority of unpleasant people choose to live.

You'll get a good spanking if you go to Nether Wallop (in Hampshire). They're all arses in Pratt's Bottom (London Borough of Bromley). Don't expect a nice reception in Twatt (Shetland). They are a bunch of pricks in Cocks (Cornwall). In Dorset they have a River Piddle, so they must be taking the, er, mickey.

But seriously, the BBC reckon that Birmingham has the rudest inhabitants.

Where I live, cos I live in it!!!!!!!! seriously though, the smallest villages usually have people living in it with the biggest wallets, biggest egos and biggest prejudices, so guess you'll find the stroppiest, unfriendly people there clinging onto everything that is materialistic.......are you thinking of taking a holiday to cheer yourself up!?

The village of Vitriol, on the eastern border of Rutland which was originally the smallest County in England. There was no post office or shops and the public house was a backroom in one of the houses - which was never open to outsiders other than passing clergy. I cannot now find its exact location on the map so they may now have become part of a new large Housing scheme and could have been taken over by newcomers to the area.

It has to be Banstead in Surrey. They aren't as rich as some of the surrounding villages ie; Chipstead or Walton on the Hill, but they think they are! They are totally up their own ar*es! I know 'cause I live there and have to put up with it!!!

Anglesey, North Wales.
When you go into a shop the locals stop to look at you then carry on their conversation that they'd just been having in English - in Welsh!
How rude!
