Not only from genes. If you don't wash your face everyday then yea, you will get acne from dirt buildup. But if you have acne, most likely so did your mother or father.

Yes, Acne is a hereditary trait. It can be triggered though to be more eruptive in certain conditions.
Unfortunately acne cannot be prevented, it can however be controlled. During the times of extreme hormonal changes are when acne (if you were born with it) will show it's face.
You need to be aware of family history so you can be pro-active in preventing or controlling your skin.
Start by keeping your skin clean. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser morning and night. NEVER go to bed with make-up on. Acne's worst enemy is oxygen, so let your skin "breathe" as much as you can. Drink water by the gallon, it keeps the skin hydrated (full of water) which allows the cells coming from the lower layers of the skin to come up to the surface and be shed more easily. A leading cause of acne is dead cells building up.
If you need more info, let me know. I am a skin care therapist and acne is a common problem for many people. I would love to help if you need it.
luck to you

Yes, it is genetic, but it can be mantained washing your face twice a day with a facial cleanser nothing to harsh, cause you can acually make it worse. DON'T PICK that's how you spread bacteria and also become more inflamed. Use oil free products, make -up, hair products, and take vitamins formulated for skin. Getting facials at least once a month from a skin care specialist helps alot and if nothing else works see a dermatologist. Sometimes you just have to grow out of it.

Hi,
I am a dermatologist by profession and within a careeer of 10 years I have seen lots of acne problems. According to me Red and white pimples are the worst and painful. Acneprone skin is very sensitive, even if you touch it once the redness will increase with itching. According to me there is no magical way to heal your pimples over night as this is the puffed part of your skin due to the bacteria.
In simple words try to improve your diet and have lots of water that helps in healingg process. Un-necessary oily food should be avoided to get a healthy spotless skin.

Exfoliate your skin once a week using a paste of honey and sugar. It's gentle and honey is very moisturizing so it'll help clear your skin. For a really good cream look for Monsia skincare online, its vitamin C and natural stuff which will help a ton with uneven skin and acne scars. They have toner, cleanser, night and day creams. Really good stuff and works like a charm if you use them properly along with good hygiene and a good diet.

I'm not very sure if it does. It could be possible. Both of my parents have clear skin and have always had clear skin. Acne isn't common on either family's side.
I, however, have been dealing with breakouts since I was eleven. Both parents have dry/normal skin, like me, but I just have acne along with it.

Well, it depends. People can have really oily faces from their parents, or they could just have a lot of raging hormones which increase their oil production. You're more likely to have acne from a member of your family, but you can get it if you don't wash your face enough, because dirt clogs your pores.

its from genes and bacteria
genes can give someone a greater chance of having acne, but it's not the only factor

It is all hormones and not genes. When your hormones are out of wack the oil production goes up which causes clogged pores which then causes bacteria which causes the acne.
