Considering what Columbus and his crew perpetrated on the native populations of the Caribbean, he should be hanged in effigy, the effigy burned at the stake, the ashes buried and forgotten. Admittedly he was a great explorer, BUT he didn't set foot on what today is the United States, so why should we celebrate anything to do with him?
