I can see the cooling fan turn on if I turn on the AC after a short drive but the AC fan behind the condensor does not turn on. I am getting cold air from the AC and dont notice anything else amiss. Also when the engine idles with the AC running, I can hear a click now and then after which the engine's rpm changes a bit (either goes up or down). Is this click the sound of some relay? Can this relay be bad? Also is there any other switch etc. which drives the AC fan which can go bad? Thank you for your help! :-)

the click you hear is normal. it is the compressor cycling & the idle speed changes slightly as the load changes. now the bad news. the condenser fan should run when the compressor is engaged. if you watch the fan thru 2 click cycles & it doest run, theres a problem. there is a relay in the fuse box(right rear corner engine compartment.) there is a diagram, and the relay is identical to the one for the a/c clutch. you can swap them as a test. if it still wont work , look at the fuses. some have a separate fuse for the condenser fan, others use the same fuse for both fans. if not fuse or relay, fan motor is probably bad

Yes, the fan should come on! The click you hear is the compressor turning on and off as you have climate control and once the preset temp has been reached the air cons system keeps it at that temp!

.......turning on the ac change activates the cooling fan that drives chilly air into the vents, it also activates the fan ( radiator fan of aircon equipment ) that circulates the coolant ( freon ) it quite is responsible for the chilly air in the automobile,,,,,,, the radiator and fan of the ac equipment ( includes inert gas (freon) ) has somewhat resemblance to the radiator and fan of the engine cooling equipment (includes water and coolant) even with the indisputable fact that the ac equipment is really smaller both radiator and fan possibly stacked next to one yet another also in the ac, small diameter metal pipes run through the radiator even as in the engine cooling equipment large rubber hoses connect with it

No. Some cars do turn on immediately and some don't. It should turn on frequently however not immdeiately and not the entire time the a/c is on.
