I have always bought the designer stuff - but now we're on a tight budget and I can't afford it.

And what's the best drugstore brand?

I read an article about the difference of designer makeup and drugstore makeup. It said that the designer makeup uses higher quality materials, but sometimes these higher quality materials do nothing. Personally there are a few things that I buy designer in makeup. Their eyeshadows are definitly better because they stay on longer. The magazine article mentioned that buying brushes (like blush brushes etc) are worth it b.c they are much softer. (I went to Sephora to buy one of these things, but I'm not spending 20 bucks for a blush brush i'll have to shop around)

Somethings I wouldn't buy designer would be:
Mascara - You are only suppose to keep it for 3 months and I actually like my 3.99 mascara from CVS better than my 15 dollar one from sephora lol.
Lip gloss- I lose lip gloss like you would not believe, so normally i buy the cheap stuff. I would however reccomend NARS lipgloss for special occasions, you simply can't get those colors in a drugstore.

Hope I helped!

I don't really think there can be that much of a difference. But you and I are on opposite ends of the spectrum; I have always leaned toward bargains.

If you're going to splurge anywhere, I'd recommend splurging on foundation. Be sure to use a good one that you know you like. Cheap foundations never cover as well. But eye and lip makeup aren't so different from one price range to the next -- perhaps the difference is in the length of time it stays on.

The worst that could happen? When shopping in a drugstore you can try more colors and fads for cheaper. It widens your horizons a bit. And who knows, you might find an inexpensive brand that you really like.

Good luck!

Well, it depends. There are brands that sell makeup like Chanel and MAC that are a bit more expensive. But at drugstores, you can get makeup like Revlon (which Halle Berry uses, by the way), Almay, and Maybelline. Some of these products are really good, and some sell for less than ten bucks. These products will also last you a really long time, so you'll spend even less money because you won't need to get new makeup every couple of weeks.

The best drugstore brand...I don't think there is one. I think that each brand specializes in one type of makeup (i.e., I use Prestige for eyeliner and Covergirl for lipgloss).

Designer cosmetics (Lancome, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Origins, etc....) are made with better ingredients, most of which come from natural ingredients (usually, toners, moisturizers, creams, etc....). My best advice for you for the best stretch for your dollar, save on eye shadows by waiting for gift times at various makeup counters. Many come with awesome bonuses, like blush (which lasts FOREVER!!!). If I could say you should splurge on one thing, that is foundation. Designer brands are very concentrated, and you wont use a lot at a time. Its also important to be "drammed" for the correct foundation, as it will avoid any pink, ashy, yellow tones that might appear from the drugstore brands (because you cannot try them before you buy them). To be "drammed" means that you are tested for the correct foundation to ensure that it matches your skin tone perfectly.
As for my recommendations on the best drugstore brands in the basic stuff is Loreal's active daily moisturizer, Maybelline's great lash (don't get waterproof--it will dry out in the tube as well as on your lashes), not too sure about blushes, use an eyeliner that is not a pencil, as the eye pencils tend to dry out faster.....

I hope this helps....let me know if you need anything else sunkissedblondie1223@yahoo.com

I particularly have a differing answer in this... I frequently use Aveda makeup- it is all healthful. My epidermis is so delicate that different than for a elect few drugstore manufacturers, my face breaks out in a terrible rash. in actuality i attempted one rather low fee one and my face recognized like an orange peel for a week. So i think of for many persons there somewhat isn't a distinction different than cost. for persons with greater delicate epidermis subjects, most of the costlier stuff seems to be a thank you to flow.

I find that some off-brand eyeliners and lip liners work better than the name brand. Try NYC Colors or Wet~n~Wild. They have some neat selections in eye shadows, liners, and lip colors and glosses, that are just as good as any. I also like Rimmel products. They are cheaper than Cover Girl and others, but are better than most. Also try Jane cosmetics, I think thier prices are no more than $3 a pop and they has some cool lip products. As far as mascara goes, stick with revlon and cover girl.

Designer stuff has the best ingredients in them. The drugstore brands (or generic), use lower grade ingredients, which would explain the difference in cost. Wal-Mart has some good choices for the lower grade makeup, stay away from the 99c stuff (can't think of the name offhand)....total junk.

No two people will agree on if they are similar or different.

Of the drug store brands, I think Cover Girl is the best, and I've tried nearly every one out there.

actually there is a difference but its not a very BIG 1 the (some)designer makeup is better for your skin but the drugstore makeup works just as well if you wash your makeup of your skin at night, wash your face before putting the makeup on(etc.)
