dude the whole earth was under water! the BIBLE says so. the flood it rained for 40 days & 40 nights

Archaeology gives all the proof you need. Geography helps explain it. Look at a topographical map and you will see it is shaped like a basin. When the water level was a little higher than it is today, the whole state would have been under water. And in fact, Katrina gave good evidence that parts of it should still have been underwater. Building a city behind dikes is courting disaster. Holland has been successful because they don't have hurricanes, and because their dikes are so well maintained. But very few other areas have ever been able to consistently do so.

If your speaking of New Orleans being below sea level, that wasn't always the case. It's been sinking for about 100-200 years.

Do not forget geology such as sedimentary bedrock such as shale which is deposited in a low energy off shore environment.
