Don't let others discourage you from using household switches. Most are rated for either 120 or 240 volts. Less votage is no problem whatsoever. As other have pointed out, make sure you fuse the circuit(s) to the switches and switch the hot (positive) wire.

Yes, they'll work with no problem. The trouble would be with using a 12 v automotive switch for 120 v household current.

Sure. A switch is a switch. I once used a household light switch for the ignition in my old car. Just make sure it's wired right :)

Yes you can, be sure that you wire the switchs with the ground wires instead of the hot wires, it really won't matter but it will make you feel better about getting shocked.
