Can household 3way switches be used for 12v lighting? I would like to wire 12 volt ceiling/dome lights in cargo area of a van with switches in two locations. Any help or link to a 12v wiring diagram is appreciated.

Don't let others discourage you from using household switches. Most are rated for either 120 or 240 volts. Less votage is no problem whatsoever. As other have pointed out, make sure you fuse the circuit(s) to the switches and switch the hot (positive) wire.

Yes, they'll work with no problem. The trouble would be with using a 12 v automotive switch for 120 v household current.

Sure. A switch is a switch. I once used a household light switch for the ignition in my old car. Just make sure it's wired right :)

Yes you can, be sure that you wire the switchs with the ground wires instead of the hot wires, it really won't matter but it will make you feel better about getting shocked.

Yes. All it does is open and close a circuit.
