I have answered this before. In every documented fight between a tiger and lion; the tiger has won.

Although tigers are slightly bigger than lions, there are two phenomena that swings the pendulum of favor back to the lion. Lions are hunters while tigers are ambushers and the former would definitely be more fighting fit, taking down African buffalo which is much bigger and tougher than anything the tiger catches. Secondly, in such a catfight, both would probably go for the neck/throat. Male lions have a mane that protects them for exactly this reason - fighting (for dominance of a pride). Whether these factors swings the pendulum all the way in the lion's favor remains an open question. However, I would love to see tigers take on a raging one and a half tonne African buffalo bull...

An adult male lion is about 6 feet long and about 400 pounds. An adult male tiger can be nearly 10 feet long and over 600 pounds. No contest.

this is a guess based on overall body weight. mu guess would be the tiger hands down. i hope i never see it happen, but i,ll bet the Romans did. one of their favorites was a bull versus a bear, and i don,t want to see that either. it,s dangerous enough just going downtown.
