i put in new ram each stick on its own starts ok but together I always get this screen and have topress restart, then it loads fine and all ram registers. do I need to change a bios setting my ram is : slot 1 512mb slot 2 256mb

Some motherboards do NOT allow a mixture of memory sizes. Meaning, if you have (for example) 512 in the first slot, you HAVE to install 512 in the other slot.
