No you can't give a six month old child pudding. Here is a chart of the only foods that you can introduce at this point. Their body is not ready for that level of refined /synthesized sugars or milk at that point. It's filling the baby up without giving them ANY nutrients. Not to mention that it's teaching the child poor dieting skills early in life.
SOLID FOOD INTRODUCTION CHART
6-8 Months old
The AAP recommends that an infant not be started on solid foods until after 6 months of age.
Many pediatricians still start babies on solids around 4 months of age.
GRAINS
Try mixing together the grains that your baby has had without any reaction(s).
FRUITS
Begin making your own fruit combinations once baby has had several fruits without any reaction(s)
After 8 months old – you may wish to try offering raw ripe fruits

DAIRY
Around 8 months old, you should be able to offer plain whole milk yogurt and mild cheeses.

It's okay, and you can, but vanilla pudding is really junky. It's a lot of sugar, processed flour, and preservatives to keep it shelf stable. A 6 month old is perfectly capable and able to handle it, and that's not going to be a problem, but it's still junk food.

I wouldn't give a 6-mo-old pudding if it's made with whole milk. The ped assoc advises that babies shouldn't have whole milk until 12 months to avoid allergies, but they can start baby yogurt at 8 months.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I gave my 10 month old daughter pudding, yogurt, ice cream when she was 6 months old. And she is just fine.

As long as the baby is getting it for a treat and is eating regular healthy food, sure it's fine. It's a good source of calcium. Since she uses sugar free, low fat, pudding, that's even better; unless the child is sensitive to phenylalanine, it's no problem.
