1. Online: Go to the Poughkeepsie Journal website (http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com) and search the online archive. (For most newspapers the search is free and it will give you headlines - If you find the story you want, it generally costs about $5 to order the story. They will e-mail it to you instantly.)

2. Also online: If accident was in Kingston, you could also try the web site of The Times Herald-Record which is also a newspaper that covers the Kingston area. Do an archives search there (same deal probably - free headlines and about $5 for the actual article). I think their site is http://www.th-record.com. If not. just google "times herald record" and "middletown."

3. Or if you live in that area, you could go to the public library, which will have the newspapers on microfilm. Get the librarian to show you how to use the microfilm reader.

4. If you don't live in that area and for some reason can't get the article by an online archive search, ask your local librarian about getting the microfilm through interlibrary loan.

I would suggest going to your local library and asking to look at the microfiche. Just tell the librarian the year and the approximate months in which the accident and death occured. That should at least give you a start.
