My toilet has occassional fits where the water fills into the bowl but does not go away, i think it may be suffering an airlock, as when the water from the cistern stops filling, the water in the bowl keeps rising and spilling out. The bath, sink and toilet use the same downpipe to the ground floor which is then joined by the washing machine and kitchen sink. I have had it rodded and have also checked no birds nest in the vent pipe. What should I try next?

Thanks for ur answers, what I have discovered is a plastic rim block container that was causing the problem. The trials and tribulations of buying a house! You guys keep me enthused, so am sure I will be back with another question soon. I got this from local merchant... was given it in a carrier bag and someone mentioned they thought I was bold walking around with my Anne Summer order!

Clearly there is a blockage which will need to be located and cleared by a professional sanitation plumber. It may be necessary to use CCTV to locate the problem but it has got to be worth it for at the very least, ' health reasons'. Good Luck.

Sounds like a blockage between the ground and first floor, otherwise the dowstairs sinks would flood. The soil pipe should be 4"/110mm in diameter. Ther must be a blockage between the toilet and a short distance away, within 8-10 feet?? Does water come back into the bath when the toilet floods? if NOT it's blocked before the bath waste joins the soil pipe. You may need to get a high pressure cleaner to give it a proper clean out. Where was it rodded from? Is there a rodding access near the toilet?

Sounds like you've got a blockage somewhere.
Get some Caustic Soda Crystals and bung it down the toilet bowl. DON'T Flush, but leave for about 2-4 hours, then flush. Make sure you close the lid when leaving the solution to sit as there will be toxic smelly fumes coming out.
Whatever's in your pipes will get cleared away and you shouldn't get any more over flowing. Caustic soda crystals is some serious sh!t I tell ya and will move an elephant stuck down drains it's that good!

If you live in the UK it is illegal to have any soil wastage pipes connected to other outlet pipes. Apart from Health and Safety reasons, it makes it very difficult to know which outlet pipe is causing the problem. You say you have had it roded. Do you mean from somewhere outside the premises where the pipes come together or the toilet itself? If the toilet hasn't been roded then the obstruction may simply be in the 'U' bend itself. If this is the case, there are many proprietary brands of chemicals that will solve this problem. Just follow the instructions.

Hello,
Sorry for the toilet overflow troubles. If you believe your toilet is about to overflow, quickly remove the tank lid, reach down and push the flush valve closed. It covers the tennis ball-sized opening in the bottom of the tank. That keeps the bowl from overflowing while you clear the obstruction.
The following website contains information that may help you troubleshoot your problem. I would have copied and pasted the information for you but it would fill the page.. so check it out if you like:
http://www.toiletology.com/emergenc.shtml
Something else to consider is a device that attaches to the toilet called the overflow manager.

I hope it works out for you. Good Luck! :)

sounds like too much paper - or the wrong type. Dont use anything but toilet paper - it's specially made to disintigrate - kitchen roll and tissues are made to hold together when wet.
