As an educator and a mother, I think it is important to teach children about what has been done in the past to get us to where we are in the environment. I then introducce them to ways to keep things clean, at a level in which they understand. This includes not littering and picking up after one's self at all times. I teach children to think for themselves. To make decisions about the kind of life they want to live and what they can do to make that for themselves. I teach them that inspite of everything, they have a responsibility to themselves and their future to protect what we already have and maintain it in areas where we are unable to rebuild.

I eat organic food and use organic cleaning products. I also buy organic cotton clothes or other non-polluting fabrics when I can. I don't use chemical fertilizers on my lawn or in my garden. I'm also enrolled in the wind energy program with my electricity provider. I'm trying the fluorescent light bulbs, too, but I don't know if that's really working yet--one of them seems to be getting dim after only a few months.
